Community Reading Day
May 17
A much loved annual tradition, this event brings readers from all parts of our community into preschool through 5th grade classrooms across the district. It is as much a celebration of civic engagement as it is literacy — a chance for students to understand what kinds of people make up their community and why it is important to get involved in our city (and beyond).
Readers are matched with a classroom, pick a book to read (and often donate), and speak about what they do for work, how they are involved in the community, answer questions … and then read!

Note that this is not an event where caregivers come read to their students’ class; the goal is for students to meet and learn about new people!
